Two months after jumping into the presidential race, Democrat Hillary Clinton is “officially launching” her campaign this weekend…she’ll be in Sioux City on Saturday night and at the Iowa State Fairgrounds in Des Moines on Sunday morning.

Home rent rates in Greater Des Moines continue to rise…Real Property Management in the Greater Des Moines area reports the average monthly rate for single-family homes in the first few months of 2015 rose 20 percent compared to a year ago…and that trend is expected to continue in the near future.

Casey’s General Stores in Ankeny is reporting a strong fiscal year for 2015…the amount of gas sold was up 9 percent…and sales of groceries and other items soared to $1.8 billion. The company also opened 45 new stores and purchased 36.

Des Moines is the fourth best city to start a tech career…according to Computer Training Schools.com. The rank is based on the commute time, cost of living, the number of tech jobs, and after-work activities. Number one…is San Francisco.

The Iowa Democratic Party is hosting its first gathering of four presidential candidates next month. Bernie Sanders, Hillary Clinton, Martin O’Malley, and expected contender Jim Webb will all be featured at the Iowa Democratic Hall of Fame in Cedar Rapids on July 17th.

A 3-week public hearing schedule on the Dakota Oil Pipeline is set for mid-November.  The state utilities board will make a ruling in late December or early January on whether the cross-state pipeline can be constructed.

More Iowa kids are benefitting this summer from the Ag Department’s Summer Nutrition Program. Food Bank of Iowa says hunger is a persistent problem across the state, with one in five kids not having enough to eat. Food Bank of Iowa is supporting free lunch for kids at five Des Moines locations, two sites in Urbandale, and three more in Waukee.

More than 100 members of the Westside Conservative Club packed the Machine Shed this morning to hear GOP presidential candidate Dr. Ben Carson speak. Carson addressed his lack of experience in politics, but says he would be a leader that works for the American people, not the other way around.

Expect major construction on Iowa roadways in the next five years. The Iowa Transportation Commission approved a $3.2 billion budget…20 percent bigger than a plan approved a year ago. Key parts of the five year plan include 96 bridge replacements and nearly 18-hundred miles of roadway work.
