Republican presidential candidate Rand Paul is hosting several events in central Iowa this weekend, coming to the caucus state for the first time in six weeks.

Paul is the only confirmed candidate signed up so far to participate in Story County’s GOP tailgate at the UI-ISU football game on Saturday. All candidates, the county GOP officials said, have been invited.

The Kentucky senator is also scheduled for a meet and greet at a sports bar in Indianola on Friday, as well as give a talk to ISU students later that night. He will then head up events in Marshalltown and Nevada Saturday morning before heading over to the tailgate in Ames.

Paul has not campaigned in Iowa since the beginning of August, and he was the only presidential candidate to not appear at the Iowa State Fair a few weeks ago (his staff reported he was doing humanitarian work in Haiti). The GOP’er continues to spread his message throughout the country, hosting events most recently in Alaska, Idaho, Vermont, and New Hampshire. Paul’s standings in the polls, however, continue to fall to the single-digits.
