Flood waters in Iowa washed hog and cattle manure from more than 20 farms each with thousands of animals, state officials say. Waste flowing into streams makes it difficult for drinking water providers like Des Moines Waterworks to remove high levels of nitrate.

Looks like Des Moines is back to square one in the search for a city manager.  The top candidate for the job, Sean Stegall, has opted not to go for it, after all.  The city council hasn't decided yet whether to reconsider the original candidates, or conduct another search.

Cities and towns in Iowa that would like to be designated as "Iowa Great Places" can get their chance this summer.  The state department of cultural affairs is taking applications for the designation. Getting the tag can make communities eligible for infrastructure projects funded by the state.

A special education symposium next month will include 450 instructors from all over Iowa.  They'll gather at the DMACC Ankeny campus for the nation's first statewide teacher leadership system.  The symposium will focus on steps schools can take to inspire student learning through improved instruction.

Johnston's plans to build a new high school might be delayed by the school board tonight, after only one company put in a bid for the job.  Knutson Construction offered to build the structure for about 78-million dollars, eight million more than budgeted.

An Urbandale telemarketing company has been barred from making calls to Iowans or making calls from Iowa to consumers in other states.  The state attorney general says Legion Marketing Service used misleading ploys for saddling consumers with multi-year magazine subscriptions.
