The speaker of the Iowa House wants to see members of the General Assembly kick in to pay for their health care. The governor and his administration make contributions toward theirs, and the latest state workers’ contract has employees paying toward theirs…but as it stands right now, the part-time legislators don’t have to make a monthly payment. A Kaiser Foundation study shows an Iowa resident with employer health insurance paid an average of 12-hundred dollars for the benefits in 2013, slightly above the national average.
