Suite 204 on Locust Street in Des Moines was packed on Tuesday afternoon with Iowa voters, eager to learn more about the newly-opened Des Moines Constituent Services Office for U.S. Representative David Young, meet the congressman himself.

“We’ve been open for a while, but we wanted to highlight the service that we’re going to provide for Iowans if they have any issue with the federal government,” said Young.

Young is back in his district this week as Congress is on break. He’s opening two other Constituent Services offices for his voters – one in Council Bluffs and the other in Creston. Young said the office serves as a home base for voters to get answers to problems they have with the federal government.

“If there’s issues with a social security payment or the IRS is giving you the runaround or an issue regarding the EPA,” said Young, “I’m here to advocate for your district to the federal government.”

Young said sometimes voters feel that they are often left out of the federal process and don’t get straight answers from federal agencies. That’s where his office steps in.

“They need to know that they can have a voice in Washington,” said Young. “That’s part of my job. I listen to them, I advocate for them, and I would just ask Iowans if they have issues with the federal government then reach out to us.”
